Baileys Eclair may have only finished sixth on debut in a claimer at Vichy, but the performance can be upgraded and he is worth supporting on his second start at Aix today (12.12pm).
Starting off over 5f, he missed the break and was always playing catch up from there. However, he stayed on really well in the final furlong, having to switch widest of all to challenge and was beaten just over a length. This extra furlong will suit, and if he can break on terms here, he really should be capable of playing a role in the finish, as he shaped as though there would be plenty of improvement to come.
In with a €16,000 tag last time, he was claimed for €28,000 and connections will be hoping for an instant return today.
RECOMMENDED BET: 12.12pm Aix – Baileys Eclair win @ 11/2 (most firms, 6-1 in places)
Later on the card, Miss Alix looks sure to run her race once again and is an each-way price in the claimer (1.22pm).
She has finished runner-up on her last three starts, including in a similar contest over course and distance last time, on softer ground. She made most of the running that day, as she had when second at Cavaillon two starts back, when just touched off late on.
She has a good draw to attack and though there are a couple of dangers, notably favourite Instantane, there is little strength in depth.
RECOMMENDED BET: 1.22pm Aix – Miss Alix each-way @ 8-1 (most firms)
