Most of the field in the Listed Prix Right Royal at Chantilly are on reappearance today, but that isn’t a concern for Joie De Soir, who goes well fresh and is an exciting staying prospect for the season ahead.

The Andre Fabre-trained four year old was impressive when scoring at Listed level at Clairefontaine last summer under today’s rider Augustin Madamet, and she went on to finish second in the Prix De Pomone to the classy Raabihah.  Stepped up to 1m6f, she was a very creditable fourth in the Group 2 Prix de Royallieu on Arc weekend, before rounding off the season with a second to Control Tower at Saint-Cloud.

It’s a strong book of form and she looks to have plenty more to offer over staying trips this term.  In contrast, a couple of today’s rivals are entering the veteran stage and might not be the force of old, while favourite Darzan, though a danger, represents a yard that is yet to really hit form.   The Fabre juggernaut is in great shape and though it’s a little surprising to see Barzalona on Karlstad (who has his chance), the fact Madamet won on our selection last year eases any concerns.
