The 2m5f handicap hurdle at Chateaubriant (3.06pm) isn’t going to take a great deal of winning and at a big price, Depende is worth chancing.
The six year old hasn’t been with Adrien Fouassier that long, having had his first start for the yard last December, and he won on the flat at Pornichet in March.
Given a break in the spring, he returned to action with a fair sixth in a better race than this at Le Lion D’Angers earlier this month. The bare form will need improving upon, but this longer trip should see him in a better light and he should strip fitter for that first run since the end of March.
Fouassier has his team in good form (13 of his last 22 runners in the frame, including three winners) and is a trainer to follow with his limited number of runners over jumps – they are 14-61 in the past four seasons (23%).
Depende is having just his second run over jumps for Fouassier here and is off a basement mark of 47.5. It’s worth noting he was first and second over fences last summer for previous connections and a replication of that form would be sufficient to see him go very close here.
3.06pm Chateaubriant – 1pt win, 0.5pt place Depende @ 18-1 (all firms)
