Two bets on the card at Deauville today, starting with Super Super Sonic in the three year old claimer (11.50am).
The son of Territories is a half-brother to a five-time AW winner in the UK and he looked tailor-made for this surface when scoring over this course and distance at the end of August off a mark of 34. He had previously run well on both previous attempts on the AW, at Chantilly and Cagnes at the beginning of the year.
Though he finished down the field in a Quinte last time, that came on unsuitably soft ground and he should be seen to much better effect now returned here. He has to give weight away all round, but the booking of top apprentice Simon Planque (who has been riding plenty of winners of late) looks a very good move and if he can get the breaks, he should have an excellent chance of recording a second course success.
11.50am Deauville – 1pt win Super Super Sonic @ 15/2 (various)
With the ground currently soft/heavy on the turf course, there could be a surprise or two today and at a big price, it’s worth chancing Feeling Good in the Listed Prix Zeddaan.
She may not have the strongest form in the book, but she has improved with each of her three starts to date, has looked a work in progress in that time and I really liked the way she went through the race when third at Fontainebleau last time.
She finished behind Miramar that day, but she didn’t have the clearest of runs, was only beaten just over a length and yet is nearly three times the price.
By Wootton Bassett and out of a daughter of Prix de l’Opera winner Lady Marian, she should be suited by the soft ground over this trip and Fabrice Chappet has previous in this race, having won it last year with Prince Lancelot and had the runner-up in 2019 (Bavaria Baby).
12.25pm Deauville – 1pt win, 0.5pt place Feeling Good @ 16-1 (various)
