First-time headgear has worked the trick for Masvingo’s stablemate Coral Boy, who has won his last two in handicaps, while Irska did Race Sharp followers a favour when scoring for the yard at Compiegne last week.  In what looks a typically weak claiming handicap, Masvingo is worth supporting at double-figure odds.

A dual winner last backend, including on very soft ground, the second of those wins came off a mark of 30.5, so he looks nicely-handicapped off 3kg lower today.

Fourth and fifth in big-field Saint-Cloud handicaps in the spring off 31.5, he hasn’t been at his best since, but has now had two runs since a midsummer break and is back on softer ground, which should be a plus.

His yard is finishing the season in better form and he should be capable of having a big say in this company.

It’s not a reason to tip one, but it is interesting to see an Aga Khan representative in the Prix Alain de Royer Dupre at Evreux today.  Ashiktash finished down the field on his sole start in the spring, but the fact connections are persevering suggests he has much more ability than was evident that day.  Currently 10-1.
