The juvenile hurdle at La Teste features a trio of Francois Nicolle-trained debutants at the head of the market, headed by the well-bred La Marche Bleue. However, with the exception of that one, it’s not a great race pedigree-wise and at 7-1, Joie D’Or is worth backing.
She made her debut in the Prix Geographie at Auteuil in early April, and showed promise that day, despite finishing tenth. A little hesitant early, she warmed to her task over the hurdles and was given a considerate ride from the back straight, before finishing off her race very well.
She has since made a winning flat debut at Wissembourg, looking much more switched on and pulling well clear with the eventual runner-up.
Those two runs give her an experience edge on her main rivals here and the continued excellent form of the Mikaël Mescam yard is a big plus – he is operating at a 24% strike-rate across both codes so far this year. Stablemate Orange Diamond went very close for us at the beginning of the month at a big price, so hopefully Joie D’Or can go one better!
