Mononof is a short-priced favourite for the 1m1f maiden at Lyon La Soie (6.20pm) but though he has an obvious chance, it may pay to take him on with Gwenn Ha Du.
Edouard Monfort’s representative was never a threat on debut, but caught the eye in the home straight, getting hampered on more than one occasion and only just getting going as they crossed the line. That form is some way off Mononof’s latest effort, but it’s reasonable to expect a good step forwards on that fairly promising debut effort and this race lacks any strength in depth.
Monfort trained the half-sister to win a Quinte last year, while both the half-brother (admittedly low-grade) and dam were winners on the All-Weather. At the 6-1 on offer, Gwenn Ha Du looks a fair alternative to the favourite.
