One bet at Parilly today, with Sodapop in the two year old contest (1.25pm).

The daughter of Belardo started off in a newcomers’ race at Chantilly three weeks ago.  I thought she showed a nice level of ability that day, travelling into the race, not getting the clearest of runs up the inside, but keeping on well enough.

She has ground to make up with today’s favourite Gauss, but I’m keen to take on most by Shalaa and though he is the obvious one on form, 11/8 is short enough.

Her yard had a winning juvenile at Chantilly on Tuesday and have had a couple of others run well – I Am Inevitable took a step forwards on second start to finish third at Saint-Cloud last week, only to be disqualified due to interference.

Connections have been quick enough to run some of their juveniles in claimers this term, but Sodapop hasn’t held an entry at the lower level, but did have a class 2 entry here late last month, suggesting connections think she is capable of at least landing a maiden.  The wide draw isn’t ideal, but I think this lacks depth so at the price, she is worth chancing.

One bet in the following race on the card, starting with Bemer in the 1m2f maiden.

I liked his debut effort at Fontainebleau in mid-April, where he travelled up really sweetly, before his run levelled out in the final furlong.  He looks a really nice type, and that form was franked when winner Mirsky finished third in the Listed Prix de Suresnes at Chantilly on Tuesday.  The runner-up had solid form in the book, and they drew clear of the remainder.

I’m not a fan of backing horses from yards that are a little quiet, which unfortunately is the case here.  However, Andreas Suborics has had a few hitting the frame of late and it’s interesting that this colt holds an entry in the Grand Prix de Paris, as well as being his trainer’s most prominent representative in ante-post lists for the German Derby.

The yard’s runners tend to improve plenty for the debut experience and given the way he went through the race on debut, I like the drop back to 1m2f today.
