The two year old claimer at Marseille features several exposed sorts towards the top of the market, but I thought there was promise in the debut effort of La Flaca and hopefully she can improve past her rivals on just her second career start.

She started off over 6f at Nimes three weeks ago and just looked to find things happening too quickly for her.  However, she stayed on well enough up the home straight and ran better than the finishing position suggests, as she didn’t get the clearest of runs and her jockey was easy enough on her in the final furlong.

The step up to a mile is a big plus – a daughter of Charm Spirit, she is a half-sister to a black-type performer over jumps and to a filly that started her career in sprint claimers as a two year old, but ended up winning at Listed level in France and in Grade 3 company in the US at 1m1f.

Franck Blondel takes over today and she looks too big in the market at 14-1.

2.35pm Marseille – 1pt win, 0.5pt place La Flaca @ 14-1 (various)
