The Grand Steeple-Chase de Nancy is limited to horses rated 59 or lower over fences, but it is a competitive contest, as you would hope for the money (over €23,000 to the winner).

The Lageneste/Macaire team have landed the last two runnings of this (including for this owner last year) and have two in the race today, including recent course winner Jeu De Sha.  However, I prefer the chances of Saint Chely, who is a very capable performer on his day.

He remains a maiden over obstacles, which is a concern, but his best two runs have come over a trip, most recently when second to the high-class Gex at Auteuil in November.

He has jumping frailties, having fallen/unseated on three occasions, including when amateur-ridden at Auteuil last time.  However, granted a clear round he has every chance in this company and the 8-1 on offer is a shade of value.
