The Rouget-trained Akria is likely to be a warm order in the 7.5f maiden at Tarbes (11.20am), with capable apprentice Samy Le Quilleuc claiming 8lbs, but at a bigger price it is worth chancing the returning Pearls Angel.

Her sole start to date came over a mile on very soft ground at Bordeaux last September.  Slowly away, she looked in need of the experience that day, but was given a quiet introduction and kept on nicely in the closing stages under hands and heels riding.  That form worked out nicely.

She is a half-sister to three black-type winning fillies, all of them getting off the mark at three.  Pearls Galore showed little in two starts at two, but went on to twice finish runner-up in Group 1s last term for Paddy Twomey.  Lucky Lycra was unplaced on both starts at two for Francois Rohaut (who also trains our selection), but won on her reappearance at three and ended up a Group 3 winner, while Pearly Steph was a Listed winner at around this trip.

We’re taking a chance on fitness, but she did hold an entry at Toulouse a couple of weeks ago, so hopefully she will be sufficiently prepped for today’s assignment.

11.20am Tarbes – 1pt win Pearls Angels @ 17/2 (various inc. William Hill, Ladbrokes, Coral, 9-1 with Bet365 and Skybet)
