4.17pm Vichy

Miss De La Plata went through the race like a nicely-handicapped horse when runner-up here at Vichy last time.  With ground concerns about the two at the top of the market, she looks a fair each-way play.

A winner at Pompadour back in 2020, she missed all of last year, but ran well when runner-up in the provinces on reappearance and after two quiet handicap runs, she went very close to a second career success last time.

The drop back in trip shouldn’t inconvenience, particularly on softer ground, and at 7-1 she looks overpriced.

6.30pm Vichy

There was 20mm of rain in Vichy yesterday and the significant going change will suit Hoodwinker, who is worth backing in the class 3 this evening (6.30pm).

The four year old was a progressive type in handicaps last season for William Haggas, winning on good ground at Sandown Park in midsummer, but producing her best effort when scoring on heavy ground at Newbury last October off a mark of 81, before finishing the season with a midfield effort in Listed company.

She is yet to match that form since switching to France, beating little when making a successful reappearance at Royan in May, before a fair effort when fourth at Nantes in early June (the re-opposing Avrilomanoir back in fifth).

She hasn’t been seen since finishing down the field in a Quinte at ParisLongchamp at the end of June, but will find today’s test, on softer ground and in a smaller field, more to her liking.   With doubts about the ground for a couple of her main market rivals and a proven record fresh, this looks a good opportunity.
