I think you have to go back to Tashelka in 2007 to find Andre Fabre’s last winner of the Listed Prix Madame Jean Couturie at Vichy, but he sends an improving filly there today and she looks overpriced to gain a second career success.
She made her debut in an All-Weather maiden at Pornichet in March, winning easily in what was a modest contest. Stepped up to class 1 company at Chantilly next time, she was the first off the bridle over 1800m, but kept on really well up the straight, despite never getting the clearest of runs.
She was again under pressure early when beaten just a neck over this trip at Saint-Cloud at the beginning of June, but came to win her race and was just headed late on by Caprice Des Dieux, who franked the form when second at Group 2 level on her next outing.
An entry in a Group 3 at Chantilly last week suggests Fabre has been happy with Amboseli’s progress in the past seven weeks and given the progress she was making in the first half of the campaign, there could well be more to come. A daughter of Kingman, she is out of a mare that progressed well at three to win over this trip at Group 3 level in Ireland and hails from a family of classy, middle-distance mares that tend to improve with time.
She will need the breaks here, but I don’t think this is the strongest of Listed contests and at the morning prices, she is well worth supporting.
