I’m not convinced the class 2 contest over a mile at Vichy (1.25pm) is particularly strong, so though a couple have more obvious claims on form, I am taking a chance on Keep Fire at double-figure odds.

The Francis Graffard-trained son of Siyouni has only run twice to date.  He made his debut at Longchamp last September, finishing a staying-on fifth after a slow start, and the first three have all subsequently gained black-type (notably Group 2 Prix Greffulhe winner Baby Rider).

Sent to Pornichet for his reappearance in March, Keep Fire overcame plenty of trouble in running to get up close home in what was only an average AW maiden.  However, he was value for more than the winning distance.

He has surely had a little niggle since that win, as his first entry back came at Longchamp yesterday, but his excellent trainer starts him back at a track where the yard is 9-19 and 2-4 in 2020 and 2019 respectively and hopefully he can enhance those stats further this afternoon.  There is also encouragement  on pedigree, as he is the first foal of the multiple Group-placed (and Prix de Diane fifth) Sainte Amarante.

1.25pm Vichy – 1pt win Keep Fire @ 10-1 (all firms)
