Two cracking days of racing in prospect at Auteuil and I have two bets for this afternoon in the 4yo handicap chase (1.33pm).

Mask D’Amour has had four starts over fences already, following a couple of very promising efforts over hurdles last term.  He is still a maiden, but I really liked the run last time, when travelling through the contest in the manner of a well-handicapped individual.  That was his first start since December and I think there could be a good bit more to come off this mark.

Colwinston is a half-brother to Hugo Merienne’s first Grade 1 winner St Donats and he is undeniably well-treated off a mark of 55, off which he ran creditably (when the yard was a little quiet) on handicap debut at Compiegne last time.  Merienne, who is one of the most upwardly mobile trainers in France at present, has been looking forward to getting him started over fences and if he takes to it, he could well make a winning debut over the larger obstacles. I don’t want to leave him unbacked at the current prices.
