Daniela Mele is an impressive 3-12 in handicap hurdles at Auteuil this year and Diamantaire could give her further success in Paris this afternoon (3.25pm).

The son of Diamond Boy has looked a work in progress in four starts to date, only getting as far as the fourth on debut at Pau last December (bad mistake, tack issues) and then off until finishing second on the flat at Craon on reappearance in September.

He was given a baptism of fire over hurdles here later that month, finishing seventh behind the top-class prospect Il Est Francais, and there was plenty to like about his last-time-out fourth at Compiegne, when ridden with much more restraint. 

He has had a month off since and looks a potential improver, particularly given what looks a potentially lenient opening mark of 54.  He’s a well-bred individual, being out of a half-sister to Analifet and three other black-type performers, and this looks a good opportunity to get off the mark.

I think Saratoga Est is a danger – he was an eye-catching second at Fontainebleau late last month and is bred to be much better than this.  His fourth at Compiegne last time in a level-weights contest is fair in the context of this race and 54.5 underestimates his ability, but he has only had eight days since that run and that feels a quick enough turnaround.
