Fantastic to see such a big crowd at Auteuil yesterday enjoying the first day of their big weekend meeting, featuring another battle between Theleme and Hermes Baie, as well as a three-year-old chase run at a frenetic gallop.

The opener at 11.45am is a Listed chase for five-year-olds that has an attractive betting frame with eight runners and an odds-on favourite that has only had two starts over fences. The white-hot favourite is Macaire’s Spes Militurf who is 7-7, hasn’t put a foot wrong over fences and already has some classy formlines with the likes of Henri Le Farceur in Italy. Priced at 1/2, I think he should be priced closer to even-money in this grade and we’re taking it on trust that he’ll cope fun with an extended trip today.

Arnaud Chaillé-Chaillé landed the big one yesterday with Theleme and another of his stars, Heloy Delabarrière looks a cracking bet in this contest. He’ll have to concede 1kg to the favourite, but he’s had seven chase starts and he has the best form over the Auteuil fences in the race. Viewed as a future Grand Steeple contender, Heloy Delabarrière beat Pacha Senam comfortably over this C&D back in April and both were viewed as contenders for the Grade Two Prix des Drags the following month by the racing press.

Heloy had a break, made an eye-catching comeback over hurdles last month and connections remove the hood today. Generally priced at 6-1 this morning, I’m sure we’ll great a great run for our money in this company.
