Bruno Montzey had a treble at Mont-de-Marsan last Wednesday and can continue his winning spree with Sirtaki in the colts and geldings’ maiden (12.25pm).

He was slightly taken off his feet on debut over a mile here on good ground three weeks ago, but finished off his race nicely and that came in a deeper contest than this.

He knows the family particularly well and trained the full sister to win at Group 2 level as a three year old, as well as winning here with both a half-brother and the dam.

The extra yardage and bit of ease in the ground should both suit and while the favourite Dover Castle is very much respected, aside from him it is a race that lacks any strength in depth.

12.25pm Bordeaux – 1pt win Sirtaki @ 7/2 (most firms)

Christophe Ferland won both two year old races on this Bordeaux card last year and he has a big chance with Olkovskha in the 1m1.5f fillies’ maiden this morning (11.20am).

The well-regarded filly started off in a warm maiden at Deauville, where she finished fifth to Left Sea. However, that doesn’t tell the whole story, as she missed the break and was then rushed up to race very prominently, before fading in the straight.

The experience won’t have been lost on her and it’s encouraging that Ferland has his team in such good form.  The price has been nibbled at since I wrote this, so I haven’t tipped her, but any odds-against seems fair.
