Thunderspeed is a warm favourite for today’s Quinte at Chantilly and while he merits his place at the top of the market, there is some value further down.
I’m backing two in the race, starting with Kosakenzipfel. He ran some good races in defeat last term prior to shedding his maiden tag in style on the AW here at Chantilly over 1m5.5f. A no-show on reappearance on very soft ground at Compiegne, he did some good late work in first-time cheekpieces at ParisLongchamp last time in another Quinte handicap to finish fifth and should be spot on for today’s assignment. I’ve always thought him capable of rating a little higher than he is at present and he can be very competitive.
The other one I’m backing is Through The Mist, who has been given a real chance by the handicapper. One of a number from this owner to have had a couple of yard switches in the past 18 months, she bolted up at Clairefontaine last summer in a competitive class 3 on her second start for Hiroo Shimizu, before then struggling at Listed level on her next four starts.
She hinted strongly at a return to form when runner-up on her second outing for Gavin Hernon at Argentan last time and though this is a tougher contest, the stronger pace will suit and I think she is well worth another try at 1m4f. Dropped 2.5kg for that run last time, she is now 4.5kg lower than when fifth in a Quinte on her latest handicap start in September 2021, and it is worth noting she has won one of these in the past, over a mile at Compiegne in June 2021 off 1kg higher.
