The fillies’ maiden at Chantilly (12.40pm) has a few promising types, but none more so than Matilde and she looks too big to make it second time lucky this afternoon.
Maurizio Delcher Sanchez has enjoyed plenty of success with the family – he trained the dam to win on her second start (first outing at three), and she has already produced two black-type fillies that he has trained, notably Group 1-placed juvenile Marieta. Masiel ensured all three fillies out of the mare are winners when scoring on her second and third starts on the AW in 2021, before going on to run with credit at Listed level.
Matilde really looked in need of the experience on debut in mid-December, but she will have learned plenty from that and it is notable that Delcher Sanchez has since given her an entry in the Prix de Diane, entries for which closed last week.
This step up in trip looks sure to suit and I would be very surprised if she doesn’t take a nice step forward on that debut effort, so she is a confident bet. The price has been nibbled while I have been writing this up, but 8-1 remains attractive.
