A great card at Chantilly today with eyes drawn to the Prix de Guiche feature.

Christopher Head has been in blistering form this year and his flagbearer Big Rock could be hard to catch if allowed to dictate from the front. The form of his Longchamp win received a boost when Aidan O’Brien’s Greenland won at Saint-Cloud recently, but it’s the runner-up Padishakh that I’m backing today.

Padishakh looks to be Jean-Claude Rouget’s best middle-distance colt this year and despite being beaten on his reappearance last time, he was said to be carrying plenty of condition and should improve dramatically for a trainer who says ‘the season starts in May’. Odds of 3-1 this morning have to be snapped up. I think he’ll go off around 7/4 and it’s significant that his owner is said to be in attendance.

2.33pm Chantilly – 1pt win Padishakh @ 3-1 (generally available)

In the opening maiden for juveniles at 12.48pm, I’ve bet Kumite for Jerome Reynier. It’s possible I could be on the wrong one, but he’s using this race to see if he has a juvenile capable of defending his Prix La Fleche title next month at this course.
