There’s an intriguing conditions race for older horses over 12 furlongs in an hour at Chantilly and I’m siding with the race-fit Sacred Spirit for Andre Fabre.

The bookies are certainly adding more margin to their early French prices this year, so it helps our cause that the 77-rated Kermiya is criminally underpriced at 6-1!

Francis-Henri Graffard doesn’t seem overly warm on his 7/2 favourite Know Thyself in the press, who has been off the track for the best part of a year. Surely Graffard’s apprentice will be asked to give her a gentle reintroduction.

Sacred Spirit by contrast is a race-fit gelding who took his form to a new level on his reappearance, thrashing the well-fancied Almiro on similar ground to today. He’s a half-brother to Solider Rising who also stepped forward as a gelding and a recent black type entry provides a hint as to where this son of Kingman will end up.

Shakti beaten the selection when they last met and has an ultra progressive profile. She will relish the ground but I’m not fully convinced that today is the day to catch her on her reappearance. She carries a 3lb penalty and looks like she’ll come alive over even further than today’s trip.
