An interesting Listed contest at Compiegne this afternoon (4.00pm) and with the ground in his favour and coming off the back of a career-best effort, I think Only The Brave is overpriced to give Henk Grewe another winner in France.

The son of Iffraaj won twice in France last year before finishing ninth in the German Derby.  He did win on heavy ground at Craon afterwards, but ended the campaign on a quiet note at Deauville.

However, he has looked an improved performer this term.  Third in a Listed on his seasonal return, he returned to winning ways at this level at Hoppegarten in May (8L ahead of Soul Train, who has since bounced back to form and re-opposes here), and took another step forwards when third in Group 2 company on soft ground at Mulheim last time.  That looks strong form, with the first and second having finished third and fourth in the German Derby last year, and they have since filled the first two places in Group 2 company in Italy.

That form gives him every chance here and with conditions in his favour, he looks a good bet today.

4.00pm Compiegne – 1pt win, 0.5pts place Only The Brave @ 8-1 (Paddy Power, Betfair, 15/2 Betfred, Betway, 7-1 elsewhere)
