I felt fortunate to break even at Deauville yesterday as Dilawar ran well below par when strongly fancied.

 

There’s more good racing at Deauville today, which falls on a public holiday. The Prix Guillaume d’Ornano often attracts Group One types that go on to run in races like the Irish Champion Stakes. Jean-Claude Rouget has his local team in sparkling form as we saw yesterday with Erevann placing in a Group One and also wins for both Wally and Lassaut.

 

Al Hakeem ran an eye-catching race in the Prix du Jockey Club, a race that has already thrown up subsequent Group One winners Vadeni and Onesto. He looks a 12-furlong horse in the making and so preference today is for George Boughey’s Missed The Cut, who I think can give Team GB their sixth consecutive success in this contest. He was ridiculously impressive in winning at Royal Ascot and looks to be going right to the top.
