A dream result for this column on Tuesday with a 50-1 place in the midweek highlight, the Prix Guillaume d’Ornano.
It’s back to the same track we head this afternoon for a cracking evening card with a handful of informative juvenile races. The timing is particularly apt as the Arqana sales are about to begin and entries for the support cards on Arc weekend were recently revealed by France Galop.
Freville is a filly that’s always been highly-regarded by top trainer Christopher Head, but she has only just started to come good now the race program has opened up to her with the first mile races on offer for juveniles. She’s been entered in the Prix Marcel Boussac this week by the same yard that ran the future 2022 winner Blue Rose Cen in today’s mile listed (3.43pm). Odds of 13/2 or 7-1 underestimate her chance this evening, despite ‘only’ being a maiden winner. She probably should have won at Lyon-Parilly the time before but the ride was ill-judged. I doubt connections mind too much as she looks sure to pick up her black type either tonight or in the coming weeks.
Favourite Zabiari made a really impressive debut at Longchamp and wasn’t knocked about last time when second to Beauvatier. He holds a Group One entry too but he could be vulnerable to one with more experience today.
Shiffrin was interesting at 14-1, as the only other horse in here to have won over today’s trip, but he may have been flattered last time on soft ground. Freville is the selection.
3.43pm Deauville – 1pt each-way Freville @ 13/2 (most firms or 7-1 with bet365)
