4.18pm Deauville

Stephane Wattel has his string in fine form and he has saddled four winners this month, including Flyingbeauty for this column.

Wattel has a couple of chances in the handicaps today and it’s interesting that he has supplemented L’Ange de Minuit in the Quinte before it divided. He has one of the favourites in the Quinte itself, Mon Ami l’Ecossais, so having kept a close eye on the entries all week, it’s likely that connections banked on L’Ange de Minuit slipping into the second division for an attractive opportunity.

L’Ange de Minuit heads the weights and he should strip fitter for a midfield run in a Dieppe Quinte earlier this month which came after a 9 week break. The son of Dark Angel has form figures on the Deauville polytrack that read 42633 and it’s curious that he finds himself running today off a career low mark of 34.5, despite hacking up two starts back at Saint-Malo.

Sent off 2-1 for a similar event at Chantilly in February, there is no reason he should be as big as 8-1 today and he rates as a great bet for local trainer Wattel.

The 14/16 draw may not appear ideal on paper, but the last three handicaps on the Deauville polytrack have been won down the middle of the course and it could be that the surface is being impacted by morning trackwork.
