With almost all eyes on Aintree this afternoon, we begin our weekend in the French provinces at Nantes, which is priced up by all firms.
Race 4 at 10.50am UK time is a 12-furlong maiden for three-year-olds and despite there not being a lot of form to go on, I think there are enough pointers for German raider Siamak to make him a bet at 4-1.
Favourably drawn in 2, Siamak is sure to be primed for this maiden and I’m happy to chance the fact that he will be able to run to a mark in the mid 70s (UK ratings, that is) in order to capture this prize. The son of Isfahan represents the powerful Henk Grewe yard whose form when sending horses to run in France since last December reads: 015830101035113.
He has a strong win rate in France and when he really sends them far, he means business, with form in Western France since last August reading 4113101.
The form standard here is not high at all and this German Derby entry should be going very close at this level today – his two siblings to have made the racecourse both made winnings debuts and one went on to gain black type. Several horses in opposition are stepping up to 12 furlongs from 10 furlongs, perhaps out of desperation, if anything, whereas Siamak promises to stay this already.
I’m hoping lightning can strike twice after we successfully backed the yard’s Phuket Paradise back in March!
