I like the look of one at a big price in the 2yo fillies’ maiden at Pornichet today (5.45pm), with O’Monorie a really interesting contender on her first start for Edouard Monfort.
Previously with Charley Rossi, she couldn’t have been more clueless on debut, completely missing the break and then looking green through the majority of the race. However, the penny seemed to drop in the final furlong and though she could only finish ninth, she really wasn’t beaten far.
The extra furlong looks sure to suit this half-sister to Italian Group 3 winner O’Juke and the booking of Leo Roussel is a positive.
5.45pm Pornichet – 1pt win, 0.5pt place O’Monorie @ 20-1 (all firms)
In the colts and geldings’ 2yo contest (6.15pm), I would be really surprised to see Just A Perfect Day finish out of the frame and he is a confident selection.
The son of No Nay Never failed to shine on his debut on heavy ground in October and couldn’t quicken from midfield when eighth over 6.5f at Deauville on his next outing. However, he looked a different prospect over this course and distance last time. Dropped in from his wide draw, Clement Guitraud had to bide his time and was held up at a crucial time on the turn for home. He made up an awful lot of ground in the closing stages and was undoubtedly an unlucky loser.
This is a better race, but this €200,000 yearling purchase seems to be finding his feet, proven course form at Pornichet is a plus (his three main market rivals have yet to run here) and that latest performance strongly suggested there is more to come.
6.15pm Pornichet – 2pts win, 1pt place Just A Perfect Day @ 11/2 (all firms)
Tuuli has changed hands very cheaply on two occasions, but the daughter of Siyouni has shown a fair level of form so far and is a bet at the 15/8 on offer for what looks a weak maiden this evening (6.45pm).
A fast-finishing third after a slow start at Le Mans in November, she ran well upped a furlong to a mile at Chantilly last time, finishing a staying-on fifth despite not getting the clearest of runs.
That was a stronger contest than this race, the extra half-furlong will help, and she couldn’t have been found a weaker race. Second-favourite Lorielle is an exposed maiden in Germany (rated 60 there, so the equivalent of a rating of 24 in France) and the Brasme team continue in excellent form.
6.45pm Pornichet – 2pts win Tuuli @ 15/8 (Skybet, Paddy Power, Betfair, 7/4 elsewhere)
