The 6.5f claimer at Cagnes looks a competitive affair, but Oxalis looks overpriced at 9-1 and is worth supporting.

The lightly-raced five year old looked a good prospect earlier in his career for Freddy Head (he had Sky Power and Algiers behind when winning on debut at two) and he showed smart form on his reappearance last year, when getting the better of black-type performer Manjeer in a class 2 at Longchamp.

He didn’t progress from that, but made no mistake dropped to this level on the AW at Deauville (7.5f) and was claimed for over €36K by current connections.

Things didn’t go to plan in a couple of valuable contests in Spain, but he ran respectably on his reappearance over this CD last time and was only beaten a length by Hur Cat, and a short-head by Fuchsia, both of which are well ahead of him in the market today.

He has the back class to suggest he can come on for that run, has a good draw again in stall 2, and his yard’s representatives have been running really well of late.

12.25pm Cagnes – 1pt win, 0.5pt place Oxalis @ 9-1 (all firms)
