The 2150m handicap is one of two races on today’s Cagnes card to be run on turf and that will surely suit King Motif, who was an eye-catcher on the AW at Marseille Vivaux last time and looks a bet today.

Jerome Reynier’s four year old took a little while to get off the mark last term, but he did shed his maiden tag in good style in the provinces in October and he has run better than the form figures would suggest on his last two starts on the AW.

He travelled well at Marseille last time, but lost a fair bit of ground when going very wide on the turn for home and though he finished off his race very well, it was too late to reel in the leading quartet.

The return to this trip will help, as will the switch to turf, and this half-brother to a Listed winner for this yard does appeal as a likely improver this year.  La Bruxelloise is an interesting contender on her first start for Nicolas Perret, but hopefully King Motif can see them all off.

1.25pm Cagnes – 1pt win King Motif @ 15/2 (all firms, though 8-1 available in places)
