The AQPS chase for 4yos (11.50am) is far from the strongest of races and it is well worth taking a chance on Hyjie at a big price.

Trainer Isabelle Pacault tends to have a decent squad for the winter at Pau and Hyjie ran really well when runner-up here over hurdles in January, bumping into a decent AQPS flat horse of Erwan Grall’s and finishing in front of the subsequently useful Hispanic Moon.

That form is pretty much as good as anything on offer here, and though she was unable to build on that during the summer, she still ran creditably enough when runner-up at Vichy and fifth at Auteuil.

Her run here 12 days ago was her debut over fences and though she could only finish seventh, she was hampered at fences on three occasions and I’m sure she would’ve finished a good bit closer but for that.

Pacault is having a luckless time of it (her last two runners have both been brought down), but Hyjie has the ability to run a big race here and the booking of Felix de Giles is a very positive one.

11.50am Pau – 1pt win, 0.5pt place Hyjie @ 16-1 (various)
