Salon de Provence plays host to a moderate card of flat turf racing this afternoon in the South of France ahead of the fantastic Prix du Jockey Club card at Chantilly tomorrow.

In the first race for two-year-olds, Frederic Rossi undoubtedly holds the keys, saddling four runners, including favourite Diadema. Rossi told Race Sharp readers back in April that Diadema was a filly that he liked, but we had the impression that his first juvenile runners of the campaign were far from his best. She is likely to play a big role in this but at the prices I prefer her stablemate Alromy, who also benefits from the 3lb female rider allowance of Ambre Molins (winner of six races at this track in 2019). Alromy had an easy time of it on debut, finishing fifth from a wide draw, but she made a mid-race move that hinted at there being enough ability there to land a contest of this nature.

Alromy’s half-brother Homeryan was Group-placed as a juvenile for Francis Graffard and I think she is overpriced in a contest that looks on paper to be between the front three in the market with racecourse experience.

11.50am Salon de Provence – 1pt win Alromy @ 4-1 (generally)

Jean-Claude Rouget’s Moujik is a horse that already this season Race Sharp has both unsuccessfully tipped – and tipped against! What we can safely say though is he is a desperately disappointing gelding who struggles to get his head in front. The re-application of blinkers today can only help but I am less confident about him relaxing and quickening over this longer trip of 10 furlongs today.

At Dax last time out he was split by horses rated 75 and 70 and you wouldn’t want to be taking today’s odds of 1/2 about him in a walkover.

On form the bet here is between Patzefredo and Disincanto. The former is off the boil, has tried hurdling and comes from a stable operating at 5% in 2021. Disincanto has not won a seasonal debut before but she has been supplemented for this race and makes a mammoth 640km trip here from La Teste for the Guarnieri stable that very rarely runs in the South East.

Disincanto often races prominently and what she may lack in fitness I think she will more than compensate for here in attitude. Other wager types here like insurebet 2 places or without the favourite may appeal, but I will keep this very simple.

1.33pm Salon de Provence – 1pt win Disincanto @ 4-1 (generally)

Hello Royal ran with credit at Angers when we tipped him at a price and he had a nightmare trip. Most recently he ran fifth against colts who wouldn’t look out of place at Chantilly tomorrow and his mark of 33 looks very lenient here, being a brother to Hello Youmzain, amongst others.

2.08pm Salon de Provence – 1.5 pt win Hello Royal @ 7-1 (generally)
