Nabucco Al Maury is favourite for the Arabian maiden at La Teste this lunchtime, but he looks wildly overpriced still at 11/4.

When last seen in France he finished a head behind a recent G1 placer, in a G3, off level weights. On that form alone he should be much shorter than 11/4 for todays maiden, for all that the bridge between being a maiden winner and a Stakes Arabian horse isn’t as vast as with thoroughbreds.

It’s his last run which really makes him a knocking bet though. He raced enthusiastically through a $500k stakes race in Qatar, looking like he’d get involved for a podium finish and instead getting stuck in a box at a crucial stage. He wasn’t asked for a full effort and was narrowly denied 5th. Soumillon won that race and actually credited Peslier’s horse with putting the race on a plate for him!

Nabucco’s low draw and his positive running style will be an asset, and I expect Peslier to leave all the mid-race chaos well behind once he breaks. By contrast his market rivals are drawn 11 & 15 and have a fair bit to find on bare form. I’m confident that Nabucco Al Maury will go very close for us and he’s a great bet at the prices this morning.
