Following the 1000 Guineas yesterday, there were a few turning back to the Prix Imprudence, where both Ramatuelle and Tamfana prepped.

Imprudence winner Romanic Style has to be feared this Sunday for the Godolphin Team but I think the other trial, the Prix de la Grotte, is the one to focus on for an antepost bet.

The trial is staged over the Guineas C&D. 8 of the last 9 Prix de la Grotte winners have taken their chance in the French 1000 Guineas. 7 of those 8 went off favourite and the one that didn’t started 7/2.

The La Grotte is the established home guineas trial and it’s mad that the Frankel filly Candala is available at 12-1 for the Poule, having won this key prep impressively.

Two years ago I put up Rosacea for the same race at the same time of year. She was a 4-1 shot!

Trainer Francis Graffard has been in good form lately and the filly is a confirmed starter. Candala will appreciate the drying ground and I wouldn’t be too concerned that she doesn’t have a Royal Ascot entry. The plan will be the Prix de Diane with her.

She will improve over further based on her pedigree. Longchamp is viewed more of a speed test than Newmarket but it still hasn’t stopped six fillies from doing the Poule-Diane double in the last 20 years. They weren’t all one-off freaks like Zarkava.

I expect there will be a market shakeup tomorrow on the confirmation stage, so today is probably the last day to get Candala at double figures. Even if Content, Chic Colombine, Folgaria, Romantic Style and Louise Proctor stand their ground, as they are expected to, it would take a brave firm to hold 12-1 on Candala!

French 1000 Guineas (Antepost) 1pt win Candala @ 12-1 (Ladbrokes, Coral, Unibet, Boylesports or 14-1 bet365 or 16-1 SkyBet)
