Ahead of a sumptuous weekend of racing which promises to throw up plenty of clues for Arc weekend, the Prix d’Aumale this afternoon at Longchamp presents an attractive betting opportunity with the UK books.
George Boughey and Karl Burke send fillies who appear to have hit a ceiling in ability and this mile contest appears to favour the home team over the UK speedballs – the last raider to win this was Middle Club for Richard Hannon in 2009.
Zellie was too far back at Deauville when Oscula made all and she certainly looks up to this standard, priced at 11/4. However, at 16-1 I’m more drawn to Christophe Ferland’s Bahasa, who ran a lifeless race on debut but then hacked up in a maiden at La Teste.
Bahasa is a daughter of Siyouni and out of Group One winner Indonesienne – we heard via Equidia last month that she is a large filly that has improved heaps since La Teste and was being tilted at a Listed prize in Normandy (link). She pulled a shoe and runs here instead. Trainer Ferland is already talking about the possibility of her emulating her dam and running in the Boussac in three weeks, which is noteworthy given his previous in the race and his current form with juveniles – Maximus his latest one to impress at Lyon Parilly yesterday.
She has been tipped in a place already this morning but at 16-1 there is plenty of each-way value to be had with Bahasa this afternoon with a top pilot on board.
