Despite the race not carrying Group status, the Listed Prix Volterra this afternoon at Longchamp features a number of fillies either on the upgrade or who are dropping down in the class in search of a Black Type win. Andre Fabre saddles Sun Flare in the Godolphin silks and although she hasn’t been missed in the market, she is 2-2 and won in the style of a Group performer last time out. She makes appeal at 6/4 to get our afternoon off to a good start.
2.50pm ParisLongchamp – 1pt win Sun Flare @ 6/4 (most firms, 13/8 with Fitzdares, Quinnbet and Sky Bet)
In the 4.48pm, there a a few with chances. Business Plan is better drawn in 3 than market rival Tytan (17) and isn’t far off winning her handicap. She heads the market at 5-1 but I firmly believe that she will be sent off shorter and we have the safety net of 4 places here in a good each-way frame.
Further down in the odds lists, Chelsea Du Ninian was responsible for half of her former stable’s 4 victories in 2021 and is capable of improvement now she’s been claimed by Nicolas Paysan. Beaten under 3 lengths by Solemia’s son Seulomonde in an Angers handicap last October off 31.5, she has a staying profile and makes each-way appeal at 20-1 off a 2kg lower mark.
She is short of gears but if she can find a little improvement from her stable debut last month, where she finished 5th at Vichy, she has a place chance under Theo Bachelot. Although this race carries more prizemoney than Vichy, she is towards the top of the weights and it’s likely her owner-trainer may have been targeting this.
