The Wertheimers’ Avolta is understandably the ‘horse of the day’ at Lyon this afternoon, with a perfect 2-2 record on the polytrack and having been tried twice this year in stakes company.
Ferland’s have been running well at Deauville this week but the filly has had a 7-month break and is easy to oppose at a short price.
Pascal Bary’s Celeres is the obvious each-way pick at 5-1. Drawn low in 3, runs from the front and should give her running and grab a place.
However there’s one in here that I think can turn the tables on Celeres and potentially beat Avolta. Sunburn looked potentially useful when breaking her maiden in Paris last year and her own return from a 7-week break was respectable at this course last month. She finished two lengths behind Celeres under the stable’s apprentice but wasn’t given a hard time and should strip fitter for what her trainer described on X as her ‘grosse rentrée’.
She could have been better drawn than 9 today, but she gets a jockey upgrade and is reported in good form. Her previous rating was only 2lb behind Avolta’s and Sunburn is also really well treated here. She’s rated superior to Celeres but carries 3kg less, based on recent earnings.
At 9-1 we should get a great run from Sunburn and I expect her to start at half those odds.
