Nancy Tips and Racecourse Guide

Nancy Racecourse plays host to around 15 meetings each year, including flat, jumps and trotting.

The flat course is a 1600m right-handed loop and due to the attritional weather in north-eastern France, the going is often very soft.

Nancy can hold 700 spectators, making it one of the smaller tracks to host PMU meetings.

It had to be totally rebuilt in the 1950s after it was heavily affected by World War Two.

In 2021, Chantilly trainer Nicolas Clement used Nancy as a springboard for his future Group-placed three-year-old, Caprice Des Dieux.

The Grand Steeple-Chase de Nancy is limited to horses rated 59 or lower over fences, but it is a competitive contest, as you would hope for the money (over €23,000 to the winner).

The Lageneste/Macaire team have landed the last two runnings of this (including for this owner last year) and have two in the race today, including recent course winner Jeu De Sha.  However, I prefer the chances of Saint Chely, who is a very capable performer on his day.

He remains a maiden over obstacles, which is a concern, but his best two runs have come over a trip, most recently when second to the high-class Gex at Auteuil in November.

He has jumping frailties, having fallen/unseated on three occasions, including when amateur-ridden at Auteuil last time.  However, granted a clear round he has every chance in this company and the 8-1 on offer is a shade of value.

French Racing Tips – 03/05

I’m not convinced by the favourite in the opening cross-country at Nancy, and it may pay to side with Giuli Giuli, who is receiving plenty of weight from the top two. She looked in need of the experience on just her second start in this discipline when falling late on...

French Racing Tips – 11/04

There isn't a great deal of recent form to go on in the 7f claimer at Nancy (5.00pm), and I'm keen to take on Khatoun, who heads the market. He was beaten by Why Chope (who re-opposes, but is poorly drawn in stall 14) on similar terms last time, and this looks a...

A tough punting card at Nancy this morning, but Sidona looks a bit of value in the Class 3 conditions contest (10.20am). She hasn't been at her best on her last couple of starts, fading after making the running at Lyon last time on her first start since December. ...

I'm taking a bit of a chance given his recent form, but Jerome Reynier has found a very weak claimer at Nancy for Cap Rocat and at the morning prices, he is worth chancing. The eight year old has struggled in recent starts, but a fourth off a mark of 36 in a turf...
