The opener at Pau this morning rates as probably the most esoteric betting event of the weekend but I’m keen to get involved at the UK prices.

Kareem remains a maiden but a useful one at that. His rating of 45 gives him the class edge here and he is worth supporting at 9/2 based on his 2022 form. He placed second in two maidens, won by subsequent group performers, and was sent up to Chantilly to contest a Group race himself on his second start, running with credit in midfield.

Kareem has since moved to Elizabeth Bernard’s yard and it would be disappointing to not see him go close over this new 12 furlong trip, especially as he gets 3kg from the favourite and was gelded last winter. He is the only Arabian in today’s field with any kind of pedigree and I’m also drawn in by the fact that his Dam was most effective over middle distances.

Now he’s been off for over a year and has been done no favours by his 8/8 draw, but he broke and ran well on his racecourse debut and 9/2 looks huge in the context of today’s opposition.
