The Group Three Prix Celopatre was not a race I had been planning on betting in, but I’ve had to step in at the morning prices today.

Jerome Reynier’s string are still in brilliant form, evidenced by recent Group wins at both Deauville and Longchamp, and I think his star Zoffany filly, Fun With Flags, is a bet today at 11/10. I would be very surprised if she is not sent off odds-on.

Connections have turned down multiple offers for her and although she comes into this race second on bare ratings, it’s plainly clear that her reputation and profile puts her well on top of these fillies.

Race fitness has been a key determining factor (at least I think) in several Classic trials to have been run in France this season – Lazzat, Ramadan and Calandagan are just a few names that fit the mould, albeit they could easily be stars in their own right.

Fun With Flags surely has a considerable fitness edge over market rival War Chimes, who is described by her trainer David Menuisier as being at 80% today. Menuisier has also told the press that he expects her to be at her best over 12 furlongs and it doesn’t inspire confidence at a short price today knowing that the stable’s three winners this calendar year all had the benefit of runs beforehand (Egoiste and Metaverse). This is likely to be a stepping stone to an Oaks Trial next month.
