A couple of outsiders worth backing at Saint-Malo today and I’ll make a brief case for them.

Valyrian Steel has been completely overlooked in the opener (12.47pm).  Those at the head of the market all have questions to answer and, though that’s very much the case with our selection, he’s actually the highest rated of these and ran to marks in the 90s in Meydan at the turn of the year.  He’s entitled to need the run, but at 25-1 he’s worth chancing.

12.47pm Saint-Malo – 0.5pt each-way Valyrian Steel @ 22-1 (various, 25-1 in places, 20-1 elsewhere)

In the two-year-old maiden (1.22pm), Luiza Bere looks overpriced at 9-1.  She found the 1300m on the sharp side on debut, when looking in need of the experience, but was a well-backed favourite that day and can be expected to improve.  I don’t think this is much of a race and though she has work to do to turn around that debut form with today’s favourite, the price discrepancy is too big.  Yann Barberot is a highly-respected trainer of two year olds and she could well spring a surprise on her second start.

1.22pm Saint-Malo – 1pt win Luiza Bere @ 9-1 (most firms)
