While the weather wreaks havoc on the racing programme in the UK and Ireland, there are no such problems in the south of France and our best bet of the day runs at Cagnes in the 2.50pm.

Souveraine Elusive has won four of her 21 starts to date, including her first two outings of 2020, scoring in handicap company off French marks of 32 and 36 (70 and 79 in UK).  She has been placed in her five starts since, but there was plenty of encouragement to be gleaned from her staying-on fifth in a competitive Deauville handicap in December off a mark of 38 (84 in UK).

She may not have been at her best since making the trip to Cagnes, finishing down the field in both starts here, but the return to the AW looks a big plus, while the booking of the talented apprentice Simon Planque catches the eye.  Planque has been the find of the winter season in Cagnes so far and his sole previous ride for Yann Barberot was a short-head second in a claimer here earlier this month.

Last-time-out winner Sunlight is a short-priced favourite today, but there is a big question mark over the suitability of today’s trip for her, while Le Pin is very much respected, as he had a luckless run in handicap company last time and has the services of Champion Jockey Pierre-Charles Boudot today.  However, at the prices, Souveraine Elusive looks a value each-way alternative.

1pt each-way Souveraine Elusive @ 12-1 (Bet365, 11-1 elsewhere).
