The French 1000 Guineas stayed at home in 2021 as big outsider Coeursamba burst out the pack to score at 66/1, denying Aidan O’Brien a clean sweep of French Guineas and the chance to win both the British and French 1000 Guineas with the same filly, Mother Earth.

Jean-Claude Rouget’s Coeursamba had limited form in the book to suggest she could progress into a Classic filly and was left out of entries for the Coronation Stakes due to worries about travel during Covid.

The daughter of The Wow Signal was given a quiet return in a Class 1 race this season but has run a career best by quite some way. Ascot could now be on the cards after all, via a supplementary entry.

2021 French 1000 Guineas Result

  1. Coeursamba 66/1
  2. Mother Earth 6/4
  3. Kennella 66/1

On the back of the shock result, Mother Earth was eased in the betting to 7/2 for the Coronation Stakes. Fourth-placed Sweet Lady appeared held at this level and is easy to back for the same race at 20/1 for Francis Graffard.
