The three-year-old hurdle at La Teste (10.25am) looks a modest contest, in which the Francois Nicolle-trained, ex-flat performer Barrua is rightly favourite after scoring on hurdling debut.

However, she carries a 4kg penalty for that success and while she is the likeliest winner, at a big price I am chancing Polyrisk.

By the excellent No Risk At All and out of a Poliglote mare that scored at the third time of asking for this owner/breeder/trainer, he finished last on debut at Bordeaux in April, but took a definite step forwards when sixth in a deeper race than this here last time.

He settled well in mid-division that day, travelled well into contention and was bang there over the second-last, before tiring late on.  It was a very good effort, in a race won by subsequent Auteuil Listed winner Mombasa, and from which Joie D’Or (who finished one placed in front of Polyrisk) came out and won next time.

He should be spot on now after two runs, and Remi Fourcade (who gets his winners here) takes over from another conditional who, as far as I’m aware, hasn’t ridden a winner in his career to date.

10.25am La Teste – 1pt win Polyrisk @ 33-1 (all firms except Will Hill)
