The opening claiming handicap at ParisLongchamp is a very poor contest, but it does present an attractive each-way bet in Shatterhand.

The six year old has finished unplaced in two starts back from a break, but he ran better than the result suggests at Angers last time, not beaten too far despite finishing ninth, and this is a first drop into claiming company for Mathieu Brasme’s representative.

Back down to the mark off which he was successful in a Saint-Cloud handicap in October, he has plenty of form on very soft ground and finished runner-up on his only previous start here.

A winner on his third start of the season in 2023, he looks primed to run very well in a race that lacks strength in depth.

3.38pm ParisLongchamp – 1pt each-way Shatterhand @ 15/2 (most firms, 8-1 with Bet365)

Ten Horns is worth a look in the Listed Prix de Pontarme (4.13pm).  A dual winner at two, he finished runner-up to the subsequent French Guineas third Alcantor at Deauville last August and rounded off the season with a third at this level at Lyon.  He looked the type to do better this year and can build on his reappearance behind Ramadan in Group 3 company here last time in a significantly better race than this; though he finished last, he was one place behind last weekend’s Guineas winner Metropolitan.  The drop back to 7f on this ground should help and he could well outrun his odds.
