Two bets in the opening two races at ParisLongchamp today, starting with Now We Know in the opener (11.20am).
The selection had some very useful rivals in behind when winning this race on heavy ground last year and conditions are in his favour today as he bids for a repeat success for the in-form Nicolas Clement.
This extra furlong suits him at this stage of his career, and he shaped better than the result when 11th in the handicap at the Arc meeting here last time out. Titanium is an obvious danger, but at the prices Now We Know is the bet.
11.20am ParisLongchamp – 1pt win Now We Know @ 13/2 (most firms, 7-1 with Bet365)
Our best bet goes in the three-year-old handicap, with First Snow Moon, one of two in the race for the in-form Stephane Wattel, too big a price at 7-1.
She overcame a poor draw and moderate trip when bolting up in very testing conditions at Dieppe in May, after which there were reportedly some good offers turned down.
Fourth on her next start in a class 2 in June, she was then off until a third on the AW at Chantilly 18 days ago, staying on nicely under a considerate ride, which should have her spot on for today. The drop in trip could be considered a slight negative, but her Listed-placed siblings Recover Me and Zvarov were both effective at this trip, as was the dam Marie Rossa (fourth at Listed level over a mile).
The return to heavy ground is a big plus and I’m sure there’s more to come from her off this sort of mark – connections had her entered in a Listed at Saint-Cloud tomorrow and black type will be the plan next time if she can win this.
11.50am ParisLongchamp – 2pts win First Snow Moon @ 7-1 (all firms)
