86 horses have been entered in this year’s Qatar Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe and with the super mares Enable, Love and Tarnawa all retired, the market this year is headed by 2021 St Leger winner Hurricane Lane for Charlie Appleby at 9-1.
Recent York winner Emily Upjohn is 11-1 with bet365 and holds an entry. She could bid to emulate her sire Sea The Stars, a breath-taking winner of this race back in 2009.
Defending champion Torquator Tasso will begin his season in a month and is a 20-1 chance to successfully defend his Arc title this October. Those odds could look generous if he puts in a big run in the King George this July at Ascot.
The French haven’t been at their best recently and one of their best older horses is 25-1 for this, Fenelon, a long-range fancy for the Race Sharp Team.
Verry Elleegant would need to be supplemented but the Melbourne Cup winner is also on offer at 25-1. Lassaut at 40-1 and Epic Poet at 50-1 could hit the big time for Jean-Claude Rouget but are still works in progress.
