The main meeting today is at Auteuil and we will have a bet on the card later, but there is one to get us started this morning, in the claiming chase at Mont-de-Marsan (10.20am).

It is a desperately weak race and it is easy enough to pick holes in all of them, but at the prices I think Wuti has to be worth chancing.

The Christophe Cheminaud-trained six year old is had some good form to his name in 2019, finishing third on good ground at Toulouse, 2.5L off Calva D’Auge, who is rated 140 in the UK and would lap these.  He also won over hurdles on a sound surface at Dax, beating Portentoso, who landed a Quinte handicap for Erwan Grall at Pau this winter.

He was then off for 18 months until reappearing at Pau, where he pulled up twice in heavy ground.  However, they were much stronger races than this, the second of them being a €56K handicap, while I thought there was encouragement to be gleaned from his chasing debut at Toulouse last time, which came on a softer surface than ideal.

Thomas Henderson takes over today and this is a substantial drop in grade.  At 16-1, he is well worth a bet.

10.20 Mont-de-Marsan – 1pt win, 0.5pt place Wuti @ 16-1 (WillHill, Ladbrokes, Skybet)
