There has been a bit of money around for Patrioctic already, but with plenty of 22-1 still available he looks worth chancing in the opener at Lingfield Park (1.00pm).

It looks a really weak race and though the market leader Kayfast Warrior is respected (particularly given how well his sire’s progeny handle soft ground), it would be no surprise to see an improved performance from Laura Mongan’s three year old now that he is upped in trip for his handicap debut.

Give his pedigree and the yard’s record with juveniles, it was no surprise to see him down the field on his two runs last term.  Gelded in the spring, he returned over an inadequate 6f here on soft ground last month, but did show a bit of ability before, unsurprisingly, finding himself unable to go with the principals.

A ninth foal, all eight siblings have won races and the lowest-rated colt/gelding among them still managed to run to a Racing Post Rating of 79.  He looked to handle the ground last time (Erhaab is also a pretty solid soft-ground influence)  and has the physical scope to progress.

1.00pm Lingfield Park – 1pt win, 0.5pt place @ 22-1 (most firms)
