Today’s Irish tip runs in the 3m1f handicap chase at Wexford (4.50pm).

Avec Espoir has been ignored in the market, but the 16-1 is too big. Wexford is a tight and unique chase course which obviously suits this horse, as he has finished second here on both starts at the track, both over this trip and on good ground.

That most recent second here came in September, when beaten 1/2 length by the now 118-rated chaser Glenquin Castle, who went on to win his next four starts!  Our selection had previously won impressively at Tipperary and ran really well over 2m5f at Leopardstown at Christmas, in a much deeper race than this.

He has mostly been ridden by claiming jockeys, but it’s good to see the experienced Denis O’Reagan reunites with him today, as he last rode him when second here last term. The ones at the head of the market look worth taking on and this could be a good chance for Avec Espoir to get back in the winners’ enclosure.
